COMEDIANS: Why You Should Do Gay Comedy Clubs

Why should you do gay comedy clubs?

It’s amazing that in 2019, being gay or bi or anyone in the LGBTQ community is still a taboo topic. With so many changes over the last 50 years, sexual identity being one of them, why do we still harbor so many phobias?

I’m a black man in America and though really nothing surprises me, I’m still amazed at the backward thinking and unwillingness to accept our new society and all it has to offer. Well, let me step off my soapbox and onto the matter at hand – should I do gay clubs? I was asked this by a fellow comedian and I thought it was a dumb ass question, but hey, as I said before, I’m not really shocked by this. As I twisted my lips and lifted my independent eyebrow, I answered, “of course, why not?”This individual responded, “Well, I don’t know those people or what makes them laugh.” I just walk away and found some more intelligent comedians to shoot the shit with, lol. This was not the first time I heard these comments in reference to this scenario but it’s like, “really?”
