If you’re a comedian you’ve probably done a bringer show or two…thousand. It’s almost the first initiation into the world of stand up. We’re all warned not to do them. We don’t listen though, do we? We let our dreams of grandeur blind us from the fact that this is just a ploy for club owners and bookers to make money and fill seats.

Now, to be fair, no audience no show. I just believe the work involved in doing a bringer show far outweighs its usefulness. Therefore, in my opinion, they suck, and for the most part pretty useless. I’m sure they may have at some point benefited a comic or two. But for the other 100,000 of us it was just a stressful night praying your lying ass friends and fam would show up.
