COMEDIANS: How to Write Jokes
COMEDIANS: Write, recite and write some more! One of the keys to being a great comedy writer is actually writing jokes! So many comics rely on freestyling when they’re on stage that they forget their most valuable asset – the joke. Even in power rooms where a lot of folks believe they have to constantly change their style or freestyle, they forget good ol’ material is still king.

I’ve been in this game for 13 years and I’ve seen and done it all. I learned early on how to write the joke, recite the joke and if necessary (always necessary), rewrite the joke. I also learned early on that when my material doesn’t work going off the rails can sometimes prevent a bomb set. By bomb I mean suck, die a slow death on stage or simply eat ass. So what you fell off your bike, it happens…so pick your face off the floor, get your ass home and get to writing.
